The poster was intended to promote the upcoming season. It showed a photograph of a young girl alongside the text "This season has something for everyone!", but it went down badly with a number of people on social media, who criticised it for its sexual connotations due to the graphic elements on the design.
The criticism came from Ana Pinto, president of The Voice of Survivors. She praised CAPE's swift response, speaking in a live radio interview on Saturday.
As CAPE itself now explains in a press release, the centre had not been aware of the issue and is therefore taking down all the posters. The centre had only meant to draw attention to the new season and to signal that inclusion is a genuine priority for them.
The press release also apologises to the girl in the photograph and to her family. CAPE also thanked those who quickly flagged the ambiguity of the poster.
The centre added that it would review the validation process for such projects, so that a similar mistake does not happen again in future.
