Luxembourg is once again represented at Tomorrowland by the same two artists as last year – Ogazón and Nosi – now joined by the duo Netty Hugo. For the 32-year-old Ogazón, being invited back to the Belgian festival is a huge honour.
But how did this all come about?
"There are so many different factors that come into play. I suppose I made a good impression last year. Everything felt incredibly natural; I had a great time behind the decks, and I think that was noticeable. The crowd reacted brilliantly, and I truly felt that people joined me on the journey I had prepared for them. I also got on exceptionally well with the team; everyone was extremely friendly (...) I think when the energy is right, the audience is having fun, and the collaboration runs smoothly, it simply leads to being booked again."Ogazón
Ogazón's journey to Tomorrowland is remarkable. The festival, held annually in Boom, Belgium, has attracted around 400,000 visitors over its last three editions, while a record 600,000 people attended in 2022, cementing Tomorrowland’s status as one of the largest electronic music festivals in the world.
Last year, Ogazón made her debut at Tomorrowland and also performed at Tomorrowland Winter in Alpe d’Huez. She describes the winter edition as "a truly special experience with a completely different atmosphere compared to summer, but just as enjoyable."
"What is truly special, for example at Tomorrowland Winter, is that I played right in the middle of a snowstorm, and since I only play with vinyl, everyone said that it wouldn't be possible. Yet, if anyone can make it work, it is Tomorrowland. In the end, we managed to play for two hours with vinyl in a snowstorm (...). That is what Tomorrowland means to me – they simply make things work out."Ogazón
Looking ahead to this year's festival, Ogazón is still struck by the professionalism and attention to detail that goes into Tomorrowland. She emphasises that Tomorrowland really is on another level in terms of production and organisation, adding that the organisers' passion for detail sets the event apart.
Despite her years of experience as a performer and last year’s appearance at the festival, Ogazón admits some nervousness before major shows always remains.
"I think one of the reasons is that I only play vinyl, which means I rely entirely on the technology. And vinyl is extremely sensitive; on big stages, vibrations can cause needle skips, which makes it difficult to mix cleanly. There can also be feedback or other issues. I had these concerns a bit last year too, but Tomorrowland is so professionally organised that everything really went perfectly. That gives you the peace of mind and self-confidence you need to play in front of such a large audience."Ogazón
For this year's edition, Ogazón plans to adapt her set slightly to make it more accessible for the Tomorrowland audience. While she will still play her signature style, she notes that she will not be playing tracks she would usually spin at 3am in a Berlin club.
She is also hoping for the same strong support from Luxembourgish fans this year as she enjoyed last summer, which she says meant a great deal to her.
“It is one of the only festivals where I play where I have seen so many flags. I think that is also the identity of Tomorrowland, that we all come together and so on. That is why it was so funny to see last year that there were already a few people in the crowd with Luxembourgish flags, with the Red Lion. Of course, it is always great to know that you have support from home.”Ogazón
