The Science Challenge Show3, 2, 1... Take Off! Episode 9, 'Mathematics', available now

Olivier Catani
adapted for RTL Today
In Episode 9 of Take Off, the candidates are in for the next big surprise. A new team joins the competition – one that none of them had expected.
Episode 9 – Mathematics
More than numbers, when math becomes a game.

Challenge against the coaches

The candidates must compete against the coaches. The winner is not only guaranteed a place in the next round, but also wins a joker that could provide a clear advantage in the next episode. Their task is to sort six columns of coloured balls so that, in the end, each column contains balls of the same colour. It’s a mathematical puzzle that a computer could solve in seconds. Humans, however, tend to need a little longer. But how fast are our candidates? And, more importantly, are they faster than Lucie and Joseph?

Every step counts

The candidates play a game of dog and owner. The dog takes one route, the owner another. The lead between them must remain as short as possible throughout. The team that ends up with the shortest lead wins this challenge, while the other must face the duel. This challenge comes from the University of Luxembourg and proves that mathematics can also be a game.

Take Off airs on Fridays at 7pm on TV, RTL Play and takeoffshow.lu. It will also be broadcast again on Sunday morning at 11am.
