Ciné Sura, the long-established cinema in Echternach, is once again showing films after a brief and unexpected closure announced just ten days ago. The shutdown was communicated through a cryptic social media message, sparking speculation among the local community.

The closure was the result of a conflict with the Centre for the Diffusion and Promotion of Cinematography (CDAC), the federation of independent and regional cinemas, which expelled Ciné Sura over alleged violations of its statutes. Neither Ciné Sura nor the federation has provided details about the nature of these alleged breaches.

According to a recent announcement on Ciné Sura's Facebook page, the cinema has now reopened, albeit on a limited basis, with screenings taking place at weekends only for the time being.

The operators intend to add more showings gradually over the summer, with the aim of returning to a full programme by September.

Although the management has made clear its commitment to keeping the cinema open, the underlying issues between Ciné Sura and the CDAC remain unresolved, and several important questions about the cinema’s future are yet to be addressed.
