When Auckland copywriter Josh Thompson received an ominous email from his employer, he knew that this could not be a good sign - and decided to bring an unusual support person.

New Zealand copywriter Josh Thompson brought an unusual support person to his redundancy meeting at FCB New Zealand. The option to bring a support person is a legal requirement in the country.

Employees usually bring family members, their partner, or close friends. In Thompson’s case, the story was a slightly different one. Taking the turn of events with humour, he decided to bring... a clown called Joe.

Thompson reportedly told the BBC from Australia: “I was working - because I had a job back then - and I got an email and the email said: ‘Hi Josh we’d like to meet with you to discuss some matters in regards to your role.’”

He added: “Basically I sensed that this was going to be a redundancy ... so I thought I might as well try to make the best out of this situation.”

Unfortunately Thompson still got fired - but he already landed a new job at Australian ad agency DDB.
