The first reports appeared around 3.36pm on the outage-tracking platform DownDetector, which quickly recorded several thousand issues.
According to user reports, Instagram was particularly affected. Most users indicated that the app was no longer functioning properly, while others were unable to log in. Some also reported losing connection to the platform's servers. On smartphones, the news feed still appeared accessible, but sending private messages and loading Stories was disrupted. On desktop computers, an error page appeared instead of the usual content.
Facebook was also affected, with similar difficulties loading posts or accessing accounts. As is often the case during service disruptions, many users turned to X to verify the source of the problem and share their experiences.
Access to Messenger, Facebook's messaging platform, was also unavailable.
Meta has not yet commented on the cause of the outage. Incidents of this kind are generally temporary, but they can affect multiple services simultaneously when a technical issue impacts the company's shared infrastructure.
