A 36-year-old man and his three-year-old daughter have died following a traffic accident on the A3 motorway near Emmerich, in North Rhine-Westphalia. The child succumbed to her injuries in hospital, Düsseldorf police announced on Thursday. The man was killed in the accident, which took place on Monday evening. His pregnant wife suffered serious injuries, though according to the latest information, the 26-year-old is no longer in a critical condition.

According to police, the family had been travelling in the direction of Cologne when a lorry swerved to the left, possibly without noticing their car. The car subsequently overturned, while the lorry, coming from the Netherlands, briefly slowed down before driving on. Officers said the driver must have been aware of the accident. A search has now been launched for both the vehicle and the driver.
