The costs of equipping the Grand Ducal police form part of the state budget. Police salaries will rise to more than 228 million euros next year, a figure that will surpass 251 million in 2024 with the recruitment of 207 additional officers each year for the next three years.

The budget has set aside €7,000 per police officer to provide appropriate equipment and clothing on a yearly basis.

In addition, 2.8 million euros have been allocated to purchase weapons, ammunition and bulletproof vests in 2021. The police force also plans to acquire a new robot for de-mining activities.

Kox did not specify whether electric vehicles would continue to be used for certain police interventions. The test phase will be subjected to analysis in order to decide the future of e-mobility with the police.  A dozen new motorbikes will be added to the Grand Ducal police fleet in 2021.

The minister added that he hoped a bill could be tabled regarding the controversial police file before spring 2021.
