Twenty-seven new petitions have been published on the official portal. Their sponsors have until 24 June to collect the required 5,500 signatures each to trigger a public debate in the Chamber of Deputies.
As usual, the petitions cover a variety of topics, including a referendum on a nuclear power plant, electric cigarettes, animal welfare, and housing.
One petition calls for a national referendum on whether Luxembourg should construct a nuclear power plant.
Another requests increased state aid for low-income households, particularly in the area of housing.
One petitioner advocates for a ban on advertising for electric cigarettes.
Another demands harsher penalties for drivers who throw rubbish from their cars onto the road.
Harsher penalties are also sought by a separate petition, this time regarding violations of animal welfare law.
Another petitioner calls for the introduction of a vignette system for motorways.
