In the figures published on Tuesday, Statec revealed that 93% of residents are European citizens. Luxembourgers naturally make up the largest European group, comprising 52% of the 613,894 residents (as of 1 January 2019).
The largest non-Luxembourgish European population is the Portuguese population, which makes up 15% of the total population. There are more than 95,500 Portuguese citizens living in the Grand Duchy.
The Portuguese are followed by the French (7.6%), Italians (3.7%), Belgians (3.3%), and Germans (2.1%). As of 2014, more French citizens have immigrated to Luxembourg, taking over from the Portuguese.
Statec released the figures ahead of Europe Day, the upcoming bank holiday on 9 May.
