The damage tally following Friday's fire on Place Guillaume II was significant. Five flats were destroyed by flames, a roof went up into smoke, and two people were taken to hospital due to smoke inhalation. The fire seemed to have broken out in the kitchen of Brasserie Guillaume and spread to the roof of the building via the extraction hood.
In a post on Facebook, the brasserie's management has announced that the restaurant will remain closed until further notice. Citing the severity of the damage, the restaurant's management explained that the restaurant is not in a state to be opened to the public. The post detailed that the brasserie will be closed temporarily and that management would let its customers know as soon as they know the reopening date.
Management confirmed that the neighbouring restaurant L'osteria would remain open in the meantime.
The managers took the opportunity to thank the police and the firefighters from Luxembourg City for their quick response and their extensive efforts to extinguish the flames. They continued by stating that the entire team is looking forward to serving their customers as soon as possible.
