Treating this condition usually requires burdensome treatments that may take a toll on one’s mental health. To improve the entire treatment process, a so-called ‘Groupe Sein’ was created at CHL.
This team of specialists has now been awarded the quality label ‘Onko Zert’ by the German Cancer Society.
To be awarded this label, 97 different criteria had to be fulfilled. Besides the nurses and the psycho-oncologists, breast cancer doctors like Caroline Duhem are needed, as well as radiologists and surgeons who operate on at least 50 breast cancer patients a year.
The process took over a year, with two auditors checking how the hospital manages its cancer patients since spring.
The OnkoZert label guarantees that the ‘Groupe sein’ at CHL has the same level of quality as recognised centres abroad, explains Dr Caroline Duhem, Director of the Cancer Centre at CHL.
This label is valid for 18 months. In one year’s time, a new application must be submitted and the team will again be evaluated by the German Cancer Society.
The team also runs a blog about breast cancer and its patients.
