It would be the subconscious gender roles that would lead to many children not seeing certain occupations as an option for themselves at all. For example, all too often an educator's job caring for children and disabled people is seen as a women's career choice.
That this is not true at all, the ministry explains in a video, in which a number of educators speak out and share their thoughts.
In order to increase the number of men in extracurricular activities, a corresponding project was launched two years ago by the InfoMann service and the Institute for Gender and Diversity in Berlin. This would now go into a second phase, said Taina Bofferding, the responsible minister. This would mean that a similar number of men as women work in social professions, respectively as educators.
In the coming weeks, the ministry will also be presenting a series of so-called web talks, in which we will discuss the scientific findings on the subject and what it means in practice. Topics discussed here include, for example, stereotypes in primary school textbooks or that of childhood and how important it is to address gender issues even with young children.
These videos last 20 to 25 minutes and can be watched every week on the website of the ministry and of the University of Luxembourg.
