Police were called out to an apartment on Chemin de Roedgen in Cessange at around 4.30pm as a man threatened to blow himself up.

A special police unit was mobilised as the person barricaded himself in the building. According to preliminary reports, other residents of the building had been evacuated following threats that the man would 'blow the whole building up', this according to a statement made by a neighbour to the Wort.

Police mentioned a 'dispute' as a potential cause. A security zone was established covering the neighbourhood in question.  At 8.35pm, the police confirmed that the situation has been brought under control.  The man who had barricaded himself into the flat was unconscious when officers took him out of the apartment and is being hospitalised.

Both Chemin de Roedgen and Route de Cessange were closed for nearly four hours.

A later police statement revealed that initially police negotiators had been talking to the man, but he then broke off contact. The police's special unit then entered the building at 7.45pm and it transpired that the man was armed, which the police had suspected. There were no further people injured aside from the man himself.
