The Chamber of Civil Servants has criticised the government’s failure to consult its citizens beforehand. It asserted that involving the relevant actors, above all, those eligible to vote, is paramount when dealing with a “sensitive” issue such as the one at hand. The Chamber also referred back to the results of the 2015 referendum.
The Chamber of Civil Servants also rejected the government’s argument that the national law is incompatible with EU law, pointing out that the government plans to include individuals from non-EU countries as well. This would go beyond the scope of the respective EU directive.
The Chamber concludes its statement by stressing that this is not the way to approach social integration.
