LSAP MP Mars di Bartolomeo raised concerns in a parliamentary question addressed to Minister of Health Etienne Schneider and Minister for the Environment Carole Dieschbourg.

In the response, the ministers confirmed that EDF had purchased six hectares of land. The energy company had informed the Ministry of Health of the acquisition which was a simple land consolidation.  As per the information supplied by EDF, the new land will not permit the construction of a new reactor.

Given the age of the reactors in Cattenom, the MP had also enquired as to whether the French government plans to build new production units to continue the nuclear plant's management. To this point, the ministers confirmed that the French government had specified it would not return to the question of new reactors until 2022/2023. EDF confirmed that this is not a current plan.
