A fake scam email is currently circulating that warns users their LuxTrust account has supposedly been hacked.
The email is structured in a way that may appear authentic at first glance. For example, one such email – which RTL has obtained – claims that a person in Portugal logged into the victim's LuxTrust Mobile account a few hours earlier, at 1.04am on 15 May. According to the email, no money has been withdrawn yet, but the transaction is pending "verification".
The message goes on to state that LuxTrust, in line with EU obligations, has informed the police, who have opened an investigation. The victim is then instructed to call LuxTrust's customer service. The number listed in the email is LuxTrust's genuine phone number. Below that number, the victim is told to click on it in order to make contact. However, doing so actually forwards the victim to a French number (with the prefix 0033).

The email also contains various other explanations and, at the end, claims that the case involves an official collaboration between LuxTrust and the Luxembourg police. Below that, the message once again lists the official LuxTrust number – this time without the ability to click on it. Instead, an email address is provided that ends in @police-public.lu. This is a slight alteration of official police email addresses, which end in @police.public.lu.
A final clue that the email is fake is the actual address from which it was sent. The name structure does not closely resemble government email addresses, and the domain is run through Belgium rather than Luxembourg.
