Encouraging a culture of discussion, giving the party a new lease of life, promoting young politicians and strengthening the LSAP's political profile - Those are the goals of the LSAP party, which is under new party leadership with Franz Fayot as president and Tom Jungen as secretary general since Tuesday evening.
Franz Fayot, a Luxembourg City MP, was the only candidate for the job and got elected with 88% of the vote. The vote took place during a large party congress on Tuesday evening in Bascharage.
Fayot said that the party needed take a clearer stance and become more involved in issues such as education, the environment, taxes, housing, mobility and culture while at the same time avoiding to become too self-centred as a party.
It is time to stop asking "What can my party do for me?" and instead ask "What can I do for my party?" Fayot said on Tuesday.

The LSAP secretary general Tom Jungen was also voted into office with 95% of the vote and no opposing candidate. Minister for Cooperation Paulette Lenert will be the new female vice president, while Dudelange mayor Dan Biancalana is taking on the job as male vice-president of the LSAP party.
