Luxembourg Gare witnessed a massive traffic jam on Monday. Since Sunday morning, the lower part of Avenue de la Gare has been closed off, just between Place de la Gare and Rue Jean Origer. The cause for this is the tram construction site and related deviations, namely those of buses along the Avenue de la Gare.
According to Laurent Vanetti, head of the traffic service, many drivers did not take notice of the signposts at the level of the CFL parking lot. Once they reached the second set of signposts - that is, where the road came to an end - most did not know where to go from there. If people had taken care to read the signs properly, the traffic would not have been as bad.
Signs were clearly visible and had been erected early enough in order to allow people to choose another route. Vanetti is of the opinion that the traffic will calm down once people become used to the changes.
The deviation runs across the Rocade de Bonnevoie.
