Simone Asselborn-Bintz will replace Bodry in the Chamber of Deputies as he joins the government council. Georges Engel will take his place as leader of the LSAP in parliament.
Bodry, who studied in Paris, is a lawyer by trade and served as mayor of Dudelange for seven years. He was first elected as an MP in 1984 and was most recently sworn in last year. Bodry also served as minister from 1989 to 1999, covering sectors such as environment, energy, sport, the armed forces and communications.
As part of his work in the Chamber, Bodry was president of the constitutional reform committee which has since been decommissioned.
After more than 35 years, Bodry will leave the world of politics and join the government council as a lawyer rather than a political appointment.
