RTL Today
A man is standing trial in court after having been accused of targetedly punching the stomach of his then-pregnant girlfriend.

The 28-year-old defendant could face four years in prison, potentially with probation, following the prosecutor's recommendation. Any suspended sentence would only be granted on the condition the man seek psychological treatment. The court heard how the man had punched his 27-year-old girlfriend's stomach at least once, despite her being pregnant.

The defendant allegedly told his victim he wanted to ensure she would lose the baby, according to initial reports. The victim, however, withdrew her statement in court. The baby ultimately survived the assault.

The verdict will be released on 23 January.
