Just over six months after the tragic head-on collision on the N15 that claimed five lives in early September 2025, a section-based speed camera was installed on the stretch of road between Niederfeulen and Fuussekaul as decided by Mobility Minister Yuriko Backes. The camera, which operates in both directions, entered its testing phase on 30 March.

The government announced on Monday that the testing phase is now drawing to a close. From next Monday, 18 May, the camera will move into its enforcement phase and will begin issuing fines to drivers who exceed the speed limit.

As a reminder, a section-based speed camera calculates the average speed of a vehicle over the entire monitored stretch of road, rather than measuring speed at a single point. The maximum speed limit on the N15 between Niederfeulen and Fuussekaul is 90 km/h. A tolerance of 3 km/h will be applied for speeds below 100 km/h, and 3% for speeds above 100 km/h.
