The accident is classified as a handling error, and occurred as a trailer tank containing some 300 litres of heating fuel overturned. A cable wrapped around the muffler, which brought the trailer out of balance and in turn cause if to overturn, according to police.
Nearly one hundred litres of fuel spilled into the nearby river. Luckily workers reacted quickly to the incident and spread sand around the tanker so as to avoid more oil leaking into the nearby environs.
Rescue services then took over and cleaned the area, pumped adjacent canals, and put in place a barrier to stop the polluted water from reaching the Haute-Sûre lake.
