Last July, the Luxembourg first responders acquired a fourth dedicated location to park vehicles or helicopters in between interventions. On Monday, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced a fifth location would be installed by 1 May 2020 at the latest.
In order to ensure continuous optimisation, the new location will be provided by Luxembourg Air Rescue ASBL (LAR) and will be a space for helicopters parked at the airport in Findel. This new vector is the subject of an agreement between the government, represented by the Minister of Home Affairs and the Minister of Finance, the LAR and the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps.
The new location will allow rescuers to quickly reach accidents and ensure better territorial cover, according to the press release.
The number of Samu locations had not changed to reflect the country's population for many years. Now, with the addition of the Hesperange location in 2018, there is a first responders location for 200,000 residents, and more than 260,000 people present in the country every day.
