Latest Luxair reportPassenger numbers climb, as destinations change due to price hikes

Holidaymakers have resumed their travels, with passenger levels just 10% lower than 2019, according to Luxair CEO Gilles Feith.

In 2022, Luxair and Luxair Tours have counted over 1 million passengers thus far. Feith said many flights were full and that the price increases had not always been passed down to customers, as many had booked far in advance.

The situation at many European airports has been “catastrophic”, continued Feith, but in Luxembourg, the situation is largely under control, despite the difficulties.

Luxair has noted that passengers are choosing different holiday destinations, as the classic destinations have suffered as a result of the price regulation, as hotels have become significantly more expensive. As customers turned away from the traditional destinations, they have opted instead for trips to Turkey, Egypt, Cap Verde and others as the summer has progressed.

Feith went on to criticise the fact there is still no Europe-wide directive on mask measures, as the rules on mask-wearing still differs from country to country.
