Two people were injured, one of them critically, in an altercation involving knives near the Glacis on Tuesday evening. Police have arrested two suspects and are appealing for witnesses.
Large crowds had gathered at the Glacis for the free City Sounds concerts on National Day, despite the high temperatures. As the evening progressed and conditions became more comfortable, the atmosphere at the event became increasingly lively.
Shortly before 10.15pm, however, police and emergency services were called to a serious incident in Limpertsberg. Initial reports placed the altercation near the junction of Avenue de la Faïencerie and Boulevard de la Foire, between the Glacis and the municipal park . Police later stated that it had occurred in Allée Scheffer.
Several people had reportedly become involved in a confrontation during which knives were used. Witnesses told RTL that a large amount of blood could subsequently be seen on the ground.
The Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) confirmed that two people had been injured. One sustained minor cuts, while the other suffered a life-threatening wound near the neck.
Emergency crews already stationed at the concerts requested assistance from the Emergency Medical Assistance Service (SAMU). Both victims received initial treatment at the scene before being taken to hospital.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. Police arrested two suspects, while the public prosecutor's office was informed and an investigation is under way.
Anyone with information about the incident or those involved is asked to contact police on 113 as soon as possible.
