The Luxembourg Association of Prison Guards (AAP) spoke out on Tuesday, denouncing both a lack of staff and a prison population that has reached "alarming levels."

This is not the first time the association has sounded the alarm. On Tuesday, it reiterated its appeal to the authorities, stating that prison teams are constantly understaffed and calling for the "rapid and massive" recruitment of personnel.

According to the AAP, the safety of officers, inmates, and even the infrastructure can no longer be guaranteed under current conditions. "Some services are no longer even operating at the strict minimum required," reads the statement sent to the press on Tuesday morning.

Added to this is a prison population that has reportedly reached "alarming" levels, the association said. Hence the need for staff, reiterates the AAP, which is demanding the establishment of minimum staffing standards, specifically officer-to-inmate ratios.
