Claude Meisch, Minister of National Education, calls on teachers to discuss the life of the Grand Duke with their students.

Claude Meisch, Minister of National Education, announced on Tuesday that schools will close on 4 May for Grand Duke Jean's funeral. While on a Saturday, the closure will affect not only primary and secondary education institutions; but also adult language classes, exams, field trips, and other school and learning-related activities scheduled for that day.

Some schools had also planned an open day for 4 May, which has also been postponed. If in doubt, contact your school for further information.

In the context of national mourning, Meisch also invited  teachers to discuss and consider the life and exceptional nature of the Grand Duke as a man and politician, as well as the significance and meaning of his reign in the context of national freedom and independence.

The National Mourning period was proclaimed late Tuesday morning and will last until 6pm on 4 May 4.
