Stores saw fewer customers this Sunday than on Shopping Sundays in the weeks prior. For many businesses the Christmas period makes up between 60-70% of their yearly revenue. But the fact that some stores decide to open while others remain closed results in a rather fragmented and confusing picture, says Carlo Keller, a store owner.
Shops will stay open every Sunday for the remainder of the year, especially now that the Christmas Market is cancelled, from which crowds drift off into stores.

Nevertheless, despite the cancellation of events, the city's ambiance and festive decorations should be enjoyed, albeit while respecting sanitary measures, says Luxembourg City mayor Lydie Polfer. 'Black Friday' is scheduled for next week, another big day for business.
