A train from Wasserbillig to Luxembourg City had just entered Oetrange train station, when a security guard noticed people moving on the tracks. He consequently asked the teenagers to clear the tracks for safety reasons. The group, however, brutally attacked the guard and beat him up.

The train driver rushed to the help of his colleague but was also beaten. After the attack, the teenagers (estimated to be between 16 and 18 years old) took off.

Emergency services transported both victims to the hospital.

Police have launched an investigation.

Object on the train tracks

Luxembourg's federation of transport personnel Syprolux published a press release in the wake of the violent incident.

They explained that unknown suspects had also placed a large piece of metal on the train tracks on the same route. The piece of metal was 1.20 m wide. A train, which drove over the metal, had to perform an emergency stop, coming to a halt near Munsbach station.

It is possible that the two incidents are connected. Syprolux highlighted that this act could have had serious consequences.

They also denounce the brutal attack on the two CFL employees. The aggressors should be caught as soon as possible and be held responsible for their actions, they said. Syprolux also emphasised that it was time for politicians to tackle this kind of issue and to take adequate steps - the protection of employees working in the public transport sector needs to be ensured.
