It's that time of the year again: children and parents are out on the streets to celebrate Liichtmëssdag.

Children will pass from door to door singing the traditional 'Liichtmëssdag' song and holding lanterns, in exchange for sweet treats or money.

To make sure everyone is having a safe candlemas celebration, the police are providing some useful road safety tips:

- always stay on the pavement, as far away as possible from all traffic.

- only cross the road at traffic lights or pedestrian crossings. Always be on the lookout for cars that may not see you, despite being on a pedestrian crossing or crossing at a green light.

It is important to be visible to vehicles. The Road Safety department recommends wearing light or reflective clothing, both for children and adults.

They are also urging drivers to be especially careful when passing groups of children on 2 February.
