The Tunnel Micheville will be closed on Sunday morning as the National Roads Administration (ponts et chaussées), the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS), the Inspectorate of Labour and Mines (ITM), and the police conduct a large-scale emergency exercise.
The drill aims to assess how different teams respond to an incident in the tunnel, whether coordination runs smoothly, and to identify areas for further improvement. According to the National Roads Administration, such exercises are both essential and mandatory to ensure public safety.
The emergency drill will require the closure of the Tunnel Micheville on Sunday from 7am to 1pm. During this period, the B40 will be closed in both directions between the University interchange and the Belval-Gare interchange. Access ramps to these interchanges will also be shut, depending on the direction of travel towards Esch-sur-Alzette.
Motorists travelling on the B40 towards Audun-le-Tiche will have to exit at the University interchange, while those heading towards Esch-sur-Alzette must leave the road at the Belval-Gare interchange. Appropriate detours will be set up to guide traffic.
