A 35-year-old Afghan national was arrested by Trier federal police officers in the early hours of last Saturday during border checks on the German A64. The man was travelling on a coach from Luxembourg to Germany when officers carried out a routine check of his details.
The check revealed that the Hamburg local court had issued a warrant for his arrest. He is strongly suspected of having stabbed another man in the neck with a folding knife, narrowly missing the victim's windpipe. He is also under investigation for resisting arrest.
Following his arrest, the man was brought before an investigating judge and subsequently remanded in custody.
