“Europe needs to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels such as petrol and gas”, Luxembourg Economy and Energy Minister Lex Delles stated during Monday’s EU Energy Council in Brussels.

Energy prices were a key topic of discussion, particularly in light of tensions in the gas and oil markets linked to the war in Iran.

Ministers also discussed the so-called European grids package, which aims to improve cross-border interconnectivity, boost electrification and speed up permitting for grids, while making cross-border infrastructure more resilient and secure, according to the Council’s agenda.

Meanwhile, Luxembourg’s Economy and Energy Minister Lex Delles met with Estonia’s energy minister to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation between Luxembourg and Estonia in the field of renewable energy, particularly in relation to wind energy projects.
