As confirmed by the Wittlich police, a truck and car collided head-on after one of the two vehicles veered into the opposite lane.
The driver of the car, which had German licence plates, died at the scene from his severe injuries. The driver of the lorry, which had Dutch licence plates, was slightly injured and taken to hospital.
Both vehicles suffered total damages, and large volumes of fuel leaked from the lorry.
The forensic investigation unit was called to the scene to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident, and the road will remain completely closed until the afternoon.
