Police in Trier are urging the public not to approach a 25-year-old man who shot and injured an officer in Prüm on Tuesday afternoon before escaping into a nearby forest.

A police officer was lightly injured in a shooting during an intervention in Prüm on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Trier police. The suspect, a 25-year-old man, fled into a nearby forest, prompting a manhunt.

Authorities urge the public not to approach the man under any circumstances, not to pick up any hitchhikers, and to contact the police immediately if they spot him.

During the intervention, the suspect was wearing a beige hooded jumper, dark blue tracksuit bottoms, and white shoes. The authorities note that it cannot be ruled out at this stage that the man is in a “state of psychological distress.” Several German media outlets report that the fugitive is known to the police.
