While 25 departments had already implemented stricter curfew measures, the entirety of France is now back to a 6 p.m. curfew, starting last Saturday and set to last for at least 15 days.

The announcement was made by PM Jean Castex on Thursday. France's number of cases have remained elevated over the past weeks, recently recording 21,217 confirmed cases within 24 hours.

When it comes to the curfew, the rules remain the same as before: businesses will have to close at 6 p.m., and private citizens may only break the curfew for professional reasons, medical appointments, or emergencies.

Exempt from the curfew

A certain number of movements will thus still be allowed in France after 6 pm:

• Travelling to and from work. A permit needs to be filled out by the employer.

• Attending a medical appointment. Permits can be obtained for doctor's examinations that cannot be performed remotely.

• Treating family issues. People will still be allowed to visit family members for urgent medical support or in case of decease.

• Supporting people with disabilities.

• Attending a legal or administrative meeting.

• Travelling abroad. In these cases, plane or train tickets will suffice as official permits.

• Caring for animals and pets. Walking a dog will still be allowed, but not further than one kilometre away from one's home.
