
THCA – Health concerns have been raised after testing revealed that a supposedly legal cannabis product was laced with high-risk synthetic cannabinoids. The cannabis product, illegally marketed as THCA, was available for purchase until recently in a shop in Luxembourg City. Laboratory analysis has since revealed that the cannabis flowers were tainted with substances known to pose significant health risks.
FLOTILLA – Five Luxembourgers set sail yesterday from Barcelona with a 100-boat flotilla bound for Gaza. They are sailing towards the region in an effort to deliver aid and denounce the US-Israeli military campaigns across the Middle East. The flotilla included around 1,000 participants.
DUDELANGE – Two shop assistants were threatened with a firearm during an armed robbery at a tobacconist’s on Rue de la Libération in Dudelange. According to reports, a man gained access to the premises on Saturday morning at around 4.45am and was physically aggressive towards two employees before ordering them to hand over cash.
POLICE – Four people were injured after a fire broke out at a house in Weiswampach on Sunday. According to the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps, the fire started in a bedroom just before 2pm. Firefighting teams from Clervaux, Troisvierges, and Weiswampach attended the scene.
CEASEFIRE – Iran and the United States have failed to reach an agreement to end the war in the Middle East. US Vice President JD Vance announced yesterday, after marathon talks in Islamabad, that they had given Tehran the “final and best offer”. The entire US negotiating team left the failed talks in Islamabad, a US official said on Sunday, leaving nobody in the Pakistani capital to pursue back-channel discussions.
ELECTIONS – Viktor Orban, who has ruled Hungary for 16 years as a self-described “thorn” in the EU’s side and a defender of “illiberal democracy”, conceded defeat to conservative Peter Magyar on Sunday. Magyar won a thumping majority in parliamentary elections. Orban’s defeat, in a vote that saw a record turnout, dealt a heavy blow to nationalists, including US President Donald Trump who supported him.
FUEL CRISIS – The Irish government was on Sunday due to hold an emergency cabinet meeting to sign off on measures aimed at ending fuel cost protests that have endangered the functioning of the country’s emergency services. Hauliers and agricultural contractors began a series of protests last Tuesday over spiralling petrol and diesel prices amid the Middle East war.
GOLF – Rory McIlroy overcame early stumbles and a late scare to win the Masters on Sunday, capturing his sixth major title to become only the fourth back-to-back champion at Augusta National. The world number two from Northern Ireland made a double bogey at the fourth and a bogey at the sixth, but responded with four birdies in the next seven holes and hung on after woeful late tee shots to win a second green jacket and a record top prize of $4.5 million.
FOOTBALL – Inter Milan put one hand on the Serie A title on Sunday after coming back from two goals down to win 4-3 in a thrilling match at Como and move nine points clear of Napoli, who could only draw 1-1 at Parma. Trailing by two in the dying moments of the first half due to goals from Alex Valle and youthful virtuoso Nico Paz, Inter looked set to give champions Napoli hope their Scudetto defence might still be alive.
Luxembourg footballer Gerson Rodrigues has had his contract terminated by the Thai club he signed with less than a year ago. Kanchanaburi Power FC have not fully disclosed the reasons for the decision. The Thai football club terminated the contract, citing “circumstances and facts”, the Francophone news site virgule.lu reported on Saturday.
