DIESEL DOWN – Finally some good news on the forecourts as diesel prices in Luxembourg decreased by 7.5 cents per litre from midnight last night, bringing the new price to €1.865 per litre. Heating oil also became slightly more affordable, dropping by 7.6 cents to €1.355 per litre.
GRAIN IMPACTED – Luxembourg's summer grain harvest concluded early after severe drought significantly impacted crop yields. While winter rapeseed, spelt, and oats performed well, fodder crops were severely damaged, forcing farmers to use winter feed reserves early. Despite a 10–15% price increase, grain cultivation remains largely unprofitable.
SALMONELLA OUTBREAK – Over three hundred people in Belgium have been infected with salmonella after consuming contaminated eggs, according to the country's health authorities. Officials warn that the true number is likely higher, as not all those affected have sought medical attention. The Belgian Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (AFSCA) has issued a product recall and alerted several other European countries where the eggs were sold to, including France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Luxembourg, according to Belgian newspaper Le Soir.
NEPAL FLOOD – A massive flood and landslide disaster along the Nepal-Tibet border yesterday has killed over 150 people and left thousands missing. Many of the missing are foreign tourists, and the US Geological Survey said the disaster was caused by a glacial collapse that sent a flow of debris engulfing areas along the way.
META FINE – Meta has agreed to pay a coalition of US states as much as $18 billion and to impose sweeping new limits on how teenagers use Facebook and Instagram, according to a court filing yesterday that ends a landmark trial in California.
PEOPLE RAMMED – A man drove a car into a group of people in northwestern France late on Wednesday, killing one and wounding 10 before being detained, multiple sources said. The incident at around 10.15pm in the city of Caen was not thought to have a terrorist motive, the deputy prosecutor said. It left seven people in a critical condition and three with minor injuries, according to local prefect David Claviere. The ramming is thought to have occurred after a fight, a police source said, with Claviere saying the car "deliberately drove into pedestrians in the street opposite the train station". The suspect, a 26-year-old man born in Russia, was not known to intelligence services but was known to the police "only for traffic offences", Claviere said. He fled the scene but was later apprehended in Ouistreham, around 20 kilometres away, the police source said.
UEFA RELENT – UEFA is expected to withdraw its threat to boycott FIFA competitions during today's meeting in Monaco, following assurances that private investment plans for the World Cup have been dropped. Meanwhile, the Champions League draw takes place today, with two-time defending champions Paris Saint-Germain chasing a rare third consecutive title.
CARSE PROBE – Derbyshire Police are looking into "allegations of assault" following the incident that saw England fast bowler Brydon Carse handcuffed outside a nightclub over the weekend. Carse has been dropped from the squad for the second Test against Pakistan, which begins at Lord's today.
SAVIO SCORES – Savio scored on his Tottenham debut and was then challenged by manager Roberto De Zerbi to hit double figures for the season as Spurs advanced to a third-round League Cup tie with Liverpool following a comfortable 5-1 win over Charlton on Wednesday. Spurs, four-times winners of the League Cup, started their Premier League season with a humiliating 3-0 loss away to Brentford last weekend.
