
GAZA FLOTILLA – A flotilla of more than 50 boats carrying humanitarian aid has left Sicily bound for Gaza. Among those on board the Global Sumud Flotilla are 3 people from Luxembourg. The mission aims to break Israel's naval blockade, although Israel has already said it will not allow the vessels through.
SPORTS MUSEUM – The troubled Sports Museum inquiry continues in parliament this afternoon. Ministers responsible for sport, finance, and public works are appearing before the budget control commission, after opposition MPs complained of receiving inadequate answers over who knew what and when.
EU AGRICULTURE – EU agriculture ministers are meeting in Luxembourg today to discuss the future of the Common Agricultural Policy beyond 2027. On the sidelines, Luxembourg's Minister Martine Hansen is holding talks with her Belgian counterpart on coordinating the response to Lumpy Skin Disease – a highly contagious cattle virus that spread widely across southern Europe last year. It poses no risk to humans.
MILITARY SPENDING – The world spent nearly $3 trillion on defence last year, a new record. The Stockholm peace research institute SIPRI says military spending has risen by more than 41% over the past decade, with the United States alone spending $814 billion. China, Russia, and Germany follow.
MIDDLE EAST CONFLICT – Fighting is continuing in Lebanon despite an official ceasefire. Casualties were reported on both Israeli and Hezbollah sides over the weekend, with the heaviest clashes in the south of the country. The Israeli military has again warned civilians not to return home, a sign that large-scale air strikes may be imminent.
There are no new talks between Iran and the United States to report. The Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is travelling to Moscow today, where the Kremlin says he will meet President Putin to discuss ending the conflict.
UK ROYALS – King Charles and Queen Camilla are travelling to the United States today on a state visit. The King will meet President Trump and address Congress, marking 250 years since American independence. Relations between London and Washington are described as strained, following Britain's decision not to back Trump's approach to Iran.
TRUMP ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT – A man is due in court today after an alleged attempt to kill President Trump at a press dinner in Washington on Saturday night. The suspect opened fire at a security checkpoint inside the hotel before being shot and detained by Secret Service agents. It is said to be the 3rd attempt on the president's life in 2 years.
MARATHON – A moment of history in London. Kenya's Sabastian Sawe has become the first person to run a marathon in under 2 hours, finishing in 1 hour, 59 minutes and 30 seconds. There was also a new women's world record. Ethiopia's Tigist Assefa crossing the line in 2 hours, 15 minutes and 41 seconds.
CYCLING – Tadej Pogačar has won Liège-Bastogne-Liège for the 4th time in his career. Luxembourg's Mats Wenzel finished 47th.
FOOTBALL – Differdange lead the table by 4 points after a 2-0 win in Pétange. In the German Bundesliga on Sunday, Dortmund beat Freiburg 4-0. Stuttgart and Bremen drew 1-1.
In France, Le Havre and Metz shared an eight-goal thriller, finishing 4-4. Marseille and Nice drew 1-1 in the derby. And in Italy, AC Milan and Juventus played out a goalless draw.
