For more than five decades, the self-proclaimed architect of shock rock has been thrilling audiences with a spectacular blend of hard rock, horror, theatre and dark humour. Guillotines, electric chairs, boa constrictors and gallons of fake blood have all become trademarks of a live show that remains as entertaining today as it was in the 1970s.

Now, Cooper returns to Luxembourg for a show at Rockhal on July 8th, and RTL Today Radio has a pair of tickets to give away.

Ahead of his previous visit to the Grand Duchy, Cooper spoke to RTL Today Radio's Stephen "Steps" Lowe about life on the road, staying inspired and why he still has no intention of slowing down.

"We tour because we want to"

Having sold tens of millions of albums and influenced everyone from Kiss and Iron Maiden to Metallica and Rob Zombie, Cooper could easily have stepped away from touring.

Instead, he still spends around six months of every year on the road.

"We tour because we want to," he told Steps. "That's what we were born to do. I'd be so bored if I didn't have this."

His wife Sheryl, who has appeared in the Alice Cooper stage show since the 1970s, still tours alongside him.

"We both sit there waiting for the tour to start," he laughed. "Let's get going, because we're born to be on stage."

A show that never stands still

Fans know what to expect from an Alice Cooper concert... and yet somehow, they never quite know what to expect.

Every tour brings fresh twists to the theatrical production, even while classics like School's Out, Poison, No More Mr. Nice Guy and I'm Eighteen remain firmly in the setlist.

"We've changed the show again," Cooper explained. "We're going to do the hits, of course, but they're presented in a different way."

He also credits the chemistry within his band for keeping the performances fresh.

"The band is so tight it's ridiculous," he said. "Everybody in the band are best friends. There's no egos, no arguments."

Still passionate after five decades

Despite his legendary status, Cooper says success has never meant the work gets easier.

"I tell young bands, be careful what you wish for," he said. "It's great selling records and playing to big crowds, but it's more work than you think. Your day isn't your own."

He's also passionate about the importance of becoming a great live band.

"When we started, you had to be a great band live before you'd even get a record deal," he said. "That's something I think young bands have lost a little because of technology."

Fortunately for fans, Cooper himself has never lost that commitment to putting on a memorable live performance.
