Sofar Sounds Luxembourg

There is something magical about a live music experience where everything feels personal. That was at the heart of my recent conversation on The Melissa Dalton Show, where I was joined by Chiara Ferrara, the new curator behind Sofar Sounds Luxembourg, which has just relaunched in Luxembourg after a break since 2019.

If you have not yet come across Sofar Sounds, the concept is beautifully simple but surprisingly rare. These are intimate, secret concerts held in unexpected venues across Luxembourg.

The twist is that the exact location is only revealed 36 hours before the event, and the lineup of artists is announced on the night. It is all about stepping into the unknown and being fully present with the music.

Speaking on the show, Chiara explained how her background in live performance and hospitality has shaped her approach. Her focus is on creating a cosy, connected atmosphere where audiences feel close to both the artists and each other, while also giving emerging Luxembourg musicians a platform.

As she put it, “we want to make people discover local artists and discover their favourite next artist”. It is a deliberate shift away from distracted listening and crowded venues, towards something more human and attentive.

Sofar Sounds was founded by Rafe Offer in 2009, when he invited friends to his London flat for an intimate concert. Frustrated by audiences talking over live music in larger venues, he set out to create an alternative. Today, Sofar has grown to more than 400 cities worldwide, showing a clear appetite for more meaningful, shared music experiences.

The next Sofar Sounds Luxembourg event takes place on 26 April in a secret venue in Luxembourg City. This edition will focus on folk storytelling, with an acoustic set performed to a small audience of around 40 to 60 people, creating that signature warm and immersive atmosphere. Tickets are available via the Sofar Sounds Luxembourg website.

We also spoke about the different ways to get involved. Whether you are an emerging artist, a venue owner interested in hosting, or someone keen to volunteer behind the scenes, Sofar Sounds Luxembourg is very much a community driven project. You can reach out via the Sofar website or Instagram to find out more.

If you missed the live interview, you can catch up on RTL Play and hear more about Chiara’s vision and the stories behind these unique events.

The Melissa Dalton Show airs live every Saturday morning from 8am to 12pm on RTL Today Radio, a cheerful way to start the weekend with great music, games, giveaways, and conversations with inspiring guests from across Luxembourg and beyond.
