Chester Kieffer began the weekend by qualifying third for the opening race at the Nürburgring, putting himself in a strong position to contend for victory in the rookie classification. However, due to a penalty from the previous round at the Norisring, the Schumacher CLRT driver was relegated to eighth on the starting grid, forcing the young Luxembourger to fight his way through.
At the start, Kieffer immediately gained a position. Shortly after, the safety car was deployed following an accident involving Ray King. Once racing resumed, Keagan Masters closed in on Kieffer and managed to overtake him with 13 minutes remaining. However, Masters later received a penalty for an earlier collision with Theo Oeverhaus, which meant Kieffer regained his position.
In the final laps, Kieffer overtook Caleb Summich to finish sixth overall and as the top rookie. This was his sixth rookie victory of the season.
Robert de Haan won the first race of the weekend, ahead of Alexander Tauscher and Marcus Amand.
On Sunday, Kieffer lined up second on the grid for the weekend's second race, which increased his chances of another rookie triumph. Making the most of his starting position, the 20-year-old made an excellent getaway, overtaking Alexander Tauscher to seize the lead at the very start.
As is often the case in the initial laps, a collision brought out the safety car, wiping out Kieffer’s early advantage. At the restart, however, the Luxembourger kept his cool and defended his lead, even as Marcus Amand began to close in.
In the end, Kieffer crossed the finish line ahead of Finland’s Marcus Amand and the Netherlands' Sam Jongejan, which allowed him to secure his maiden overall victory in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany.
Kieffer thus becomes only the second Luxembourger, after Dylan Pereira, to win a race in this prestigious series. He further extends his lead in the rookie standings and will have the opportunity to clinch the rookie title at the season finale on the Hockenheimring.
All eyes are now on the Porsche Supercup, which resumes next weekend in Zandvoort. The Dutch round coincides with Formula 1’s return after the summer break and will feature a double-header of Supercup races.
