One thousand people submitted an application for asylum in Luxembourg during the first ten months of 2021. Compared to the same time period in 2020, this is an increase of 92 applications. However, 1,751 applications were submitted during the same time period in 2019.
Over the year as a whole, 1,223 decisions were taken related to applications for asylum until late-September. 60.1% were accepted, and overall, the status of refugee was recognised in 51.3% of cases.
86 people, whose applications were definitively rejected, were deported over the course of 2021. 70 of them returned voluntarily to their home countries, while 16 were subject to forced deportations.
