Sam Tanson and Henri Kox, Ministers for Justice and Internal Security from the Greens, have provided insight into reported thefts in their official response to the enquiry. Police statistics reveal that 420 cases of violent theft occurred in 2020. Additionally, there were 154 cases in which at least one culprit was identified by the police. The majority of incidents were reported in the most populated cities of the country: Luxembourg City, Esch-sur-Alzette, Differdange, Dudelange, and Pétange.
It is however untrue that the frequency of violent thefts has increased, despite the fact that more cases seem to be reported in the news as of late. The report from 2020 displays a similar range as the ones from previous years.
When it comes to prosecution of said cases, the ministers conveyed that 25 people were judged, out of which no one was acquitted.
