Former Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker is not known for being active on social media, so many were surprised to see an unexpected photo posted to his official X account on Wednesday afternoon.
The image showed a person resembling Juncker, but dressed in a colourful chicken costume, which is a far cry from the usual content associated with the ex-President of the European Commission.
When RTL contacted Juncker's press office for comment, a spokesperson was quick to confirm that the former Prime Minister would never post such an image. They explained that, during Juncker's tenure as President of the European Commission, his X account was managed by a Brussels-based social media officer.
In fact, the last legitimate post on the account dates back to 1 December 2019, after which the account had fallen silent.
The unauthorised post was swiftly removed after the incident came to light. Juncker's Brussels office took immediate steps to ensure the photo was deleted from the account.
