Following reports of glitches, the Luxembourg government has warned that temporary problems may continue to occur at certain international airports when trying to use automated passport readers.

The reason is that Luxembourg is already applying the new PACE security protocol, while some border control systems and e-gates in other countries have not yet been updated to recognise this technology.

As a result, holders of the new passport may be directed to manual passport control with a border guard at some airports.

Luxembourg authorities say they are working closely with officials in the affected countries to ensure that border control systems are updated to accommodate the new technology as soon as possible.
