Au printemps 2023, les 10.000 habitants du quartier sud de la capitale en pleine expansion pourront se ressourcer au Parc du Ban de Gasperich.

A stone’s throw away from the Gluck roundabout, at the end of the A3, the contours of the park are visible from the air, contrasting with the increasingly urbanised landscape on the outskirts of Luxembourg City.

These drone images by RTL 5Minutes show the park springing to life, from the recreational lawns, where events and concerts are expected to take place, to the 7,000 square metre pond, playground areas, and four kilometres of branching paths. The Drosbach stream, which will wind its way through the park, has also been subjected to extensive work, returning it to its natural state.

Although it may seem a far cry from the capital’s other green spaces, the new park, which will become the largest of its kind in Luxembourg City, has already been seeded, while trees were planted in spring 2021. As it stands, the park is on track to be completed in spring next year.

The park will offer visitors the opportunities for relaxing walks, or more strenuous activities, as the western side of the park (near the new Vauban school complex) will be equipped with a multisports ground, a beach volleyball court, pétanque courts and a large children’s play area.

Planners have placed an emphasis on biodiversity through the park - the Drosbach stream passes through marshy areas and alluvial woodland, while the dry lawns will encourage both flora and fauna, bordered by native trees such as maples, beeches and hornbeams.
Much like the capital’s other large green spaces, the Kinnekswiss and Kockelscheuer park, the Gasperich park will be easily accessible by tram in future. For motorists, a 46-space car park will be located by the park’s main entrance along Boulevard Kockelscheuer. Seven other entrances will be dotted around the park, which will be open 24/7.

Future projects

In the future, visitors to the park will also be able to quench their thirst at the new brasserie, a glass and metal project which is due to start construction work in October 2022.

The brasserie, which is expected to open in June 2024, will have seating for around 100 customers, as well as two terraces facing the south and the north, the latter of which will have views over the park and the large playground.

2023 will see construction start on infrastructure for the Parks services, as well as “Hondsclub Gasperich” dog training school. Building work is estimated to last around 28 months.
