It is not the first time that the Pirate Party has advocated for better animal protection in the country in recent years. For one, they want to see a revision of the hunting laws, not because they are “against hunting”, but rather to stand in for “serious hunting”, said MP Marc Goergen during the press briefing.
A respective press release further outlines what are believed to be “barbaric and medieval” hunting tactics that should be modernised. The Pirates thus advocate for more regular hunts and less stress for animals.
The party is also against the killing of mouflons near Echternach. They already started fighting this practice back in 2020, arguing that problematic populations should be relocated rather than killed.
In light of the upcoming ‘Mantelsonndeg’ (‘Coat Sunday’), the Pirates once again advocate for a prohibition on the sale of fur. They already requested such a ban in the Chamber back in 2019, which the government coalition refused.
The Pirate Party thus concludes that there is still room for improvement in the 2018 animal protection laws. Daniel Frères argued that animals have to submit to the will of people who “are playing god”.
