The Christmas market in Luxembourg City, which was due to take place from 20 November to 3 January, has been cancelled by the municipal authorities of the capital.
Luxembourg City's mayor, Lydie Polfer, stated that this cancellation came in a complicated health context and that it spoiled a lot of work already done.
Polfer confirmed that there would be no markets, entertainment, or ice rinks in the capital during the festive season.
The Christmas market is thus added to the long list of events that have been cancelled since the beginning of the pandemic.
Minor consolation: The capital's streets will still be illuminated and decorated as part of "Winterlights 2020".
The Mayor deplored this decision but stated that it would be irresponsible to organise the Christmas market in the current context.
Luxembourg has seen a significant rise in the number of new infections and a significant increase in the total number of coronavirus victims in the last two weeks.
